ALL OF THE BAGS AT HERMÈS SS25
The recent Hermès show at Paris Fashion Week delivered everything you'd expect from the heritage couture house - sophisticated, elevated, and, surprisingly, sexy. Creative director Nadège Vanhée did so intentionally, putting a luxury spin on the sheer trend that I’m sure has dominated your Instagram feeds and showing the Hermès clients how they could mix it with her leather pieces through monochromatic looks.
What stood out amongst the 62 looks Vanhée presented were the bags which took center stage - from reinterpretations of classic Hermès styles such as the Kelly and Birkin, to new, equestrian-inspired bags.
Read on to discover the eleven bags featured in the Hermès SS25 collection.
1. The Inside-Out Birkin
The Birkin bag is the emblem of Hermès and, of course, made an appearance on the runway, quite literally turned inside out. Instead of the usual leather, the inside-out Birkin bag is crafted from a sturdy canvas, designed to represent the inner lining of a traditional Birkin bag. While the standard Birkin bag feels elegant and refined, this version feels practical and utilitarian.
2. Cabas Corricolo Tote
Paying homage to Hermès equestrian roots was the Cabas Corricolo tote, which was constructed out of delicate rows of fringed horsehair. We can’t wait to get our hands on this one.
3. The JPG Birkin
The JPG (Jean-Paul Gaultier, but you already knew that) Birkin bag made a triumphant return to the Hermès runway, this time in a smaller size than usual. It’s the only Birkin bag that can be worn as a shoulder bag – sensing a theme here? Could Hermès be becoming... practical?
4. The Derby Part Deux
Reminiscent of the legendary Derby travel bag, which Hermès created in 1926, this new, as-yet-unnamed bag combines elements of the much-loved Plume. This new style presents a fresh, everyday option with its elongated horizontal silhouette and horse-hoof-shaped gussets.
5. Sabot Osier Mini Bag
The petite yet impeccably crafted Sobier Osier Mini Bag also made a return for SS25. Defined by its signature curved wicker silhouette, it was styled on the runway with a brown silk scarf. Though not Jane Birkin's namesake, this is a bag that would surely make her proud!
6. Picotin
After a four-year hiatus, the Picotin is back and better than ever, appearing on the runway in a variety of sizes and crafted from various Barénia leathers – absolutely to die for.
7. Plume
The Plume model exudes elegance and simplicity, drawing inspiration from 1920s document holders, the new reinterpretation in its smaller size is successfully bold, feminine and charming.
9. Kelly Sellier
A bag that feels like home for any Hermès fan is the Kelly bag. The Kelly Sellier, showcased on the runway, featured a large, buttery leather strap – a new addition that makes it an excellent investment as an everyday bag.
8. Cabas Tressage and Panier Tressage
Some homages to Hermès' equestrian roots were subtle. The Cabas Tressage Panier Tressage... less so! Crafted from two materials that pay direct tribute to the brand's heritage: leather and horsehair.
