Forgoing flashy logos and fleeting trends, Bottega Veneta has mastered the art of understatement.
Founded in Vicenza, Italy, in 1966, the label focused on leather goods and artisanship, quickly becoming recognised for its Intrecciato weave, which remains a staple of the house today. The intricate technique involves tightly weaving strips of leather to create a pattern instantly associated with the brand and classic vintage Veneta styles. Bottega Veneta even used the slogan “When your initials are enough” to advertise leather goods crafted using the method.
The label rose to new heights in 2018 when British designer Daniel Lee took over as Creative Director. He set about experimenting with new silhouettes and colour palettes, releasing a slew of tailored ensembles and ‘It’ bags that championed the same minimalism that made fans fall for the vintage Bottega Veneta of the 1960s. This prompted a new-found love for the brand from a new generation of style seekers, urging shoppers to uncover pre-loved Bottega Veneta finds. Legions flocked to score sought-after designs as Bottega Vintage began trending on social media.
