Burgundy. Crimson. Maroon. Scarlet. Red. Whatever you call it, it's very much a colour of the moment, for both men and women. It's probably got something to do with the warming effect it has when you look at it, reminding you of the scorching summer sun, a cup of mulled wine or a lovely glass of Chateau Neuf Du Pape.

The deep shade of red is all over magazines at the moment: from DKNY ads tothe luxe red snake-skin print jeans Sarah Jessica Parker wore this autumn. Whether advertising makeup, perfume or clothes, designers are all over it.

"Burgundy has broken out as the colour of the season, so if you're bored of the usual tan, or the expected black, why not opt for a burgundy bag in buttery smooth leather. The colour lends itself to the rich, jewel box colour palette of autumn and can equally be worn with brown, orange and mustard."

Maybe we should all take note and follow the trend.
